How many appointments are needed?
We schedule a series of up to 6 appointments on average for your new full denture or partial denture
The appointments are one week apart which allows Dr. Neal's expert lab time to get ready for each step.
You and Dr. Neal are about to create a brand new smile together. This is where his extensive background in cosmetic dentistry comes in. The series allows time to get accurate impressions of your mouth, register your bite, smile line, the color, shape and size of the teeth. We work out your smile, bite and speech. We need to do this with your input as well as any family members who can help us determine the desired result. Once we have these details approved, we can process the denture for delivery the following week. We also schedule an adjustment appointment one week after delivery in case there is something you wish to modify. Patients often have tears of joy when they see the beautiful results.
What if I have a denture that is 5-10 years old?
Many patients just want to upgrade their existing worn denture and perk up their smile. A properly fitting denture with good lip and muscle support can make you look years younger and more vibrant.. Often the patient wants to have a whiter smile while upgrading. In many cases your underlying bone shrinks over time and your nose gets closer to your chin. This creates creases in your face and can lead to sores in the corners of your mouth. Opening up your bite a bit with a new denture will restore your facial features again which again can make you look more youthful..
I need some teeth extracted, how do you make dentures for me?
We see lots of patients with some to most remaining teeth that need to be removed. Dr. Neal has developed a customized sequence for this situation . We call it an Immediate denture sequence. The sequence varies with the number and location of teeth to be removed. Dr. Neal can go over this with you in greater detail after determining the best approach for your particular situation.
Tell me more about immediate dentures
In a nutshell the back teeth are removed and we allow healing for about 6 (six) weeks. at that point we start a series of about 6 appointments to achieve the goals outlined in the regular denture series above. On the day that your are to receive your new immediate denture, the remaining teeth are removed and your denture is fitted. Due to the nature of immediate dentures, there will very often be a few adjustment appointments to fine tune the denture to your mouth as it continues to heal. Immediate dentures will require a soft and hard reline within the following 3 to 12 months as the mouth becomes stable. You can expect the same great result with immediate dentures that patients achieve with conventional dentures.
A removable partial usually requires a similar appointment sequence as above
Implant supported denture appointments can be similar or quite different
Due to the nature of the situation, implant supported dentures can sometimes be done in a manner of conventional dentures for mini Implants. I
it is quite different for standard sized implants supporting a denture or partial. the difference has to do with the healing time needed for the larger implants.
What about teeth in a day/dentures in a day?
There is another seqence called dentures in a day/teeth in a day. This method is a terrific way to have stability like natural teeth immediately when the implants are placed.
