Snoring affects up to half of the adult population. In itself, snoring is not dangerous, but it can be a sign of Sleep Apnea. Snoring can also be harmful to other family members ability to get a good night's sleep. Some people can snore near 90 decibels. People who snore should be screened for Sleep Apnea. If the problem is simple snoring, surgery or Oral Appliances can eliminate the problem.
Migraine headaches brought on overnight can be a sign of muscle tension leading to spasm of certain muscle and headaches. Often a person with bite imbalances, and/or sleep disorders like Sleep Apnea, Develop clenching/grinding (BRUXISM) habits in sleep. Whey your oxygen level drops and your carbon dioxide levels begin to rise due to airway blockage in Sleep Apnea, your brain can suffer leading to headaches. Oral appliances like a Sleep Apnea appliance, a biteplane, or an NTI device can often correct the problem and eliminate the headaches.
Jaw pain, TMJ pain can be brought on by clenching and grinding at night. This pattern can be associated with poor bite, or Sleep Apnea. If one is suffering from Sleep Apnea, the airway is closing off and the body subconsciously will often direct jaw muscles to grind and clench in order to stiffen the airway and open it. This leads to excess tooth wear and jaw muscle fatigue and pain. these can be treated with Oral Appliances like Sleep Apnea appliances, biteplanes and NTI devices.
Nighttime heartburn, Acid reflux and GERD can often be associated with Sleep Apnea. During Sleep Apnea the body effort to breath while the airway is closing causes siphoning of stomach contents into the esophagus, throat and even the mouth. This can lead to burning sensations as well as eroding (dissolving) your teeth away. Oral appliances as well as other treatment methods can often eliminate or reduce the problem if Sleep Apnea is involved.
